back in site at Chehaw Park

Chehaw park Campground, Albany Georgia

Campsites– some spots are spacious like the pull thru but it appears everyone shares one electrical box with a neighbor. Pull thru sites are nice packed gravel/clay and a lot of the back in sites are grassy.  There are longer stays available here and some of the sites have that “little too comfortable” look.  There is a military base in town, so I am sure this used by military and government workers at times.   You will have to call and make your reservation.  From past experiences- it is good to double check your reservation or have them email you/mail you your confirmation-  check to make sure the site you are assigned has the hook up you are paying for and if you have to share an electrical box you need to find out if there are two 50 amps or if you one user gets a 30 amp.

Bathhouse- has a washers/ dryers in a screened in area.  Bathroom facility is older but maintained. NOTE–> Only one Shower and one family shower

WIFI was only ok- we thought we would get better being so close to Albany.  It was better with our boosters, and we used verizon jet packs with our sprint phones.

LOTS of FUN THINGS TO DO HERE!!!

Chehaw Park Website

Picnic and Play-This is a great campground and activity area ESPECIALLY if you have children.  There is a super large playground in the form of an ARC and they recently added a splash pad.

Zoo and Petting Zoo-For the young at heart and all of us who love zoo’s there are over 200 animals to view and interact with.    It is a smaller zoo but delightful, stroller and easy access for all abilities.  There is a  wiregrass express train runs Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. cost is $3 children and $4 adults 20 min ride. In addition , there is the  FREE African Veldt runs Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.  ***Bring quarters to feed the animals at the petting zoo… my personal favorite.

BMX Track

A USA sanctioned BMX track is available for everyone and looks like a lot of fun.  There is also a Remote Control (RC)  Track too adjacent to the BMX track.

There are 10 miles of mountain biking trails that are relatively flat but some areas offer some technical opportunity.  These same paths can be hiked.

Road Biking–  Biking in the park is pleasant and probably offers about 3-4 miles of biking.  Outside the park there are good shoulders and country roads and you can contact The Pecan City Pedalers– they are an awesome and active biking group that sponsors the yearly NUT ROLL in early September.

There is also a Rails to Trails Section called the Riverfront Greenway Trail.  Here is some info on it.  From the map location, it does not appear to be too far away from Chehaw Park.  We have not ridden this trail because we usually come to this park to do the annual NUT ROLL.

Water- Lake Chehaw– There is lake access just outside the gates of the park but it is only about 1 mile from the campground.  Formerly called Worth lake  now called Lake Chehaw had a concession that rents kayaks when we were there.   This area is located on the west side of the Flint River Dam in Albany, Georgia.  Facilities include a large picnic pavilion and several picnic areas, a boat ramp, restrooms and ample parking.  The road is gravel and a bit bumpy to get to the boat ramp/lake access.  The website mentions fishing is good but I would probably catch and release personally.
